Someone gave me an amazing idea yesterday, and I wanted to share it with all of you, because I think it’s so great.
“You should set up an email address for your daughter,” he said. “Then you can send her pictures of herself and the family, and write her notes that she can read when she’s older, tell her what she did that day.”
My daughter is a toddler. I wish I’d thought of this sooner.
This is a great idea because it puts the repository in one place. Assuming Gmail (or whatever) doesn’t suddenly disappear, which I suppose could happen but I do have email addresses I’ve had for over 10 years, you know where all the stuff is, rather than having it lost in different folders all over your computer and separate hard drive (I mean, yay for you if you’re the sort of person who can keep this type of thing organized. I am really not), or on paper.
I figure we don’t have to write a novella every week. Just a few words sometimes.
Also, if something happens to me, she’ll have this collection of things I’ve given her and written for her (note to self: ensure that there’s a way for her to access this account should something happen to both of us).
I set the email address up today, and will start sending things soon. (I also have a small keepsake box)
I just wanted to share this idea with you, in case you want to do something similar.
