It all started four years ago when Austin Bartz – the eldest of 3 brothers from Minnesota – caught a puffer fish on a family vacation in Florida. Soon after, back in their wintry home state, they decided it would be neat to build a huge puffer fish out of snow. Over the next few years they went on to make a shark and a walrus out of snow as well. This past winter was their biggest project to date – a huge 12 foot high and 37 foot long turtle. Wow! I’m speechless.
‘We always stick with the theme of sea life every year,” they say, “and we try to pick something that has lots of detail. But this year we also wanted it to be kid friendly.
‘We get a lot of reactions from people who see the sculptures – most are in shock because of the size.’
